Alan Maestas is a highly regarded and sought after trial attorney for both criminal defense and civil
litigation. Maestas has a long history of taking on difficult and high profile cases, very often generating successful outcomes
for his clients.
Prior
to entering private practice, Maestas worked for the State of New Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office in Special
Prosecutions Section doing White Collar Crime and Public Corruption cases; for the Public Defender’s Office in Albuquerque,
New Mexico and then managed the Public Defender’s Office in Taos, New Mexico. He still resides in
Taos where he is the senior
partner of Maestas & Boothby, P.C..
Maestas received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University in 1972. After graduation, he was commissioned as an infantry officer
in the Army. During his military career he served in Airborne, Special Forces and Ranger units.
His numerous medals include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the combat infantry badge and a Purple Heart. He
holds the distinction of being in charge of the 2nd Ranger Battalion when it conducted a parachute assault during
the United States invasion of Panama.
Maestas received his Masters of Public Administration from Shippensburg University in 1992 and then between 1993 and 1994 Maestas was
in charge of a multinational team contracted to modernize units of the Saudi Arabian National Guard.
He
received his law degree from the University of New Mexico in 1997. During law school, he
was a member of four trial teams competing in both criminal and civil trial competitions. Since being licensed,
he has continued to develop his trial skills and averages a trial every two months.
Maestas is a
member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyer Association, New Mexico
Bar Association and American Legion. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Country Day School, Youth Heartline, Rocky
Mountain Youth Corp and the Boys and Girls Club.
