Jeffrey Shannon was raised an Air Force brat, the second of
four sons. Having attended nine different schools during grades K through 12, he graduated high school
and earned his eagle scout in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded his BA in History from Auburn University
in 1991, and received an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Alabama in 1993. He was employed
as a contract archaeologist before entering law school at the University of New Mexico, where he graduated in 1999.
Mr. Shannon, who hates being called Mr. Shannon, came to Taos in 2000, when he was hired by Alan Maestas to help open
the new public defender office. His focus is on criminal law and trial practice.
Since his arrival in Taos, Mr. Shannon has served on the Juvenile Drug Court
treatment team, of which he was a charter member, and continues to assist with the Juvenile Drug Court’s rewards program.
He has served for the last five years as a board member of the Taos County DWI Task Force. Mr. Shannon
is also a regular participant in several local non-profit fund-raising efforts.
His passions are archaeology, history and the
outdoors.
